42 years of journey still Rajinikanth is Superstar!

If a Kollywood actor is said to be celebrated all over the world then it is none other than Superstar Rajinikanth. His cinema career has had a great impact on the Tamil society and today it has been 42 years we have seen Rajinikanth on screen. Yes, Rajinikanth’s first movie Aburva Ragangal was released on this day directed by K Balachander and his co-star was Kamal Hassan in his first movie. His journey in Tamil cinema started as a Villain. His introduction as a villain to Tamil cinema has helped him a lot when he emerged as a hero. Now, Rajinikanth might be worshipped for his heroic performances in many movies but when we take a closer look at his performance in every movie that he acted as a hero was always having a black shade. He acted as a savior of poor, oppressed people, liberator and revolutionary in many of his movies. Rajinikanth’s such characters are still celebrated and remembered by his fans and the Tamil people. He has become a mass hero not only because of his performance but an important quality in him was seen on the screen. Rajinikanth’s characters in the film he acts are always portrayed as the anger of common man who is been oppressed and he divulge his sufferings. In Murattu kalai we can witness Rajini oppose Jaishankar who was a land lord in the movie. In India class struggle between the landlords and poor peasants are still happening and at that time of Murattu kaalai his heroic fight as a poor peasant against the rich landlord touches everyone. Everyone in our society wants to fight against the oppression. Every one of us wants to defeat the oppressors, make them lay down their power and authority over us. It doesn’t happen in our real lives but it was Rajinikanth who was living our dreams in the screen. This made him our own hero who fights our battle in the screen. It gave us the joy and happiness of achievement, sense of avenging justice was achieved. And he had a villain in every hero character he did till now. The villain or the bad guy side of our own consciousness was seen in Rajinikanth’s performance when he deals with the authoritarians or the oppressors.Many like this ‘bad guy’ hero on screen as he was against the social injustice that was served for everyone and that made Rajinikanth to rise as a Superstar. His style of performances and his behavior had its root in working class people. His carefree attitude against the oppression was found in the labour class. His performance as an actor was also seen in many movies like Kaikodukkum kai, Johnny and many other movies. Though his punch dialogues are still remembered by the Tamils his silences in these movies are the most expressive performances in his whole career. This all make him unique and he stands out alone in the whole Indian cinema.
