Ilayathalapathy’s Theri has broken the shackles and grossed 100 crores in just 6 days. The tribute goes to its maker Atlee, being director Shankar’s assistant and has done justice to his second project itself. There are several other reasons for its enormous success, be it the commercial elements in the plot or the well-crafted screenplay or the team’s perfect acting. Even the small characters including the baby Nainika to Motta Rajendran have given their best in the short scenes they appear. In Tamil Nadu, the collection was 47 crores and when overseas collections from USA, UK, Malaysia and Australia put together it comes to 100 crores. It took 14 days for Kaththi to collect 100 crores. Atlee now becomes the youngest director to achieve this feat which includes ace filmmakers Shankar and A.R.Murugadoss. The overseas distributor Cine Galaxy tweeted that Theri touched the prestigious $1 million mark in North America. Made in Tamil & Telugu, it hit more than 1000 screens in 31 countries. The first day collection was itself 28 crores. This is not the end and is still attracting the family audiences this weekend. Meanwhile Vijay is gearing up to kickstart the shooting of his next with Bharathan from May 2.
