Kangana Ranaut's solo directorial debut, Emergency, will depict the tenure of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during the 1970s, with the actor portraying the lead role. The movie also stars Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, and Vishak Nair.

The screenplay and dialogues of Emergency have been written by Ritesh Shah, known for his work in Pink. The film is presented by Manikarnika Films and produced by Renu Pitti and Kangana herself.

GV Prakash is presently busy composing music for multiple films such as Thangalaan, Captain Miller, Mark Antony, and Japan. On the acting front, he has wrapped up the shooting for Kalvan and is presently working on Idimuzhakkam and 13.
