After 3 hours, when he gave his first tweet enclosing a video, the number rose to 3 lakh. There were many humorous comments passed on regarding this, as he rarely come to social media and as “Twitter follows Rajinikanth”. He has also been inactive passing tweets once in 6 months or so. Presently, after a year with just 12 tweets his profile has got 2 million followers. Twitter has become a good platform for the celebrities to keep updated with their fans. Rajini stands sixth behind Robert Downey Jr, Charlie Sheen, The Pope, Simon Cowell and Kobe Bryant who were also having million followers in less than 24 hours.
